In March, Aqcellor successfully delivered its first CSR project with the provision of 400 educational packs to underprivileged students in the Ampara District of the Eastern Province.
The Socio-Environment, Educational Development Association (SEEDA) in Thambiluvil, Ampara, had received numerous letters from school Principals requesting basic school supplies to keep children in school.
For parents in the Ampara district, many of whom are fishermen, farmers, labourers and female-headed households, their first priority is finding the means to feed their children amidst the current economic crisis. Educational requirements were a low priority, though the need was urgent with a new school year commencing in April.
Aqcellor Head of Marketing and Communications, Ajita Kadirgamar who initiated the CSR project stated, “This is the most rewarding CSR project I have undertaken in all my working years. Firstly, the generosity of those who donated funds, whether corporates or individuals, was beyond my expectations. Aqcellor’s efforts are a drop in the ocean in terms of the desperate educational needs of children in these low-income areas of the Eastern Province. The photos however speak to the heart and I hope we can do more for such communities in the future, since education is one of the pillars of our company.”
Aqcellor’s donations enabled 400 children to receive basic stationery packs containing exercise books, pens, pencils, erasers and mathematical instrument sets. Eight schools were selected in Thandiyady, Pottuvil, Akkraipattu, Thirukkovil, Kanchirankuda, Vinayakapuram, Mandanai, Thambiluvil to receive this round of assistance.
